It showcases a highly elaborate traditional decorative technique known as "diaper ground with cartouches" (锦地开光).
The background is covered in a meticulous, creamy-gold geometric scroll pattern, which serves as a luxurious canvas for the artwork. The large central panels (cartouches) are exquisitely hand-painted with vivid scenes of exotic birds (appearing to be kingfishers or pheasants) perched among vibrant flowering branches, including chrysanthemums and peonies. The neck is similarly decorated with smaller, vertical cartouches featuring floral motifs. The piece is finished with prominent gilded (gold) lines that accentuate its faceted shape, along with colorful floral borders and a distinctive blue lappet (petal) border at the base.
