This elegantly shaped vase features a slender neck that gracefully widens into a bulbous, pear-shaped body, all finished with a subtle fluted or lobed surface that adds beautiful texture. The piece is exquisitely hand-painted in the traditional Famille Rose (Fencai) style over a bright imperial yellow ground.
The main body is densely decorated with a continuous, lively pattern of gourds, vines, and leaves in shades of green, blue, pink, and white. In Chinese culture, the gourd (hulu) is a powerful symbol of good fortune, health, and prosperity, as the word sounds similar to "Fulu" (blessings and wealth). The neck and base are accented with delicate floral scrolls and classic geometric borders.
