This five-piece Strata Group “Ripe Watermelons” ceramic set brings together a statement pitcher, handled basket, salt and pepper shakers and miniature toothpick holder in a coordinated arrangement of pink-red fruit, glossy green rind and black seed accents.

Each piece interprets the watermelon differently, giving the collection movement and personality. The basket resembles a decoratively carved melon, with a dramatic zigzag rim framing its seeded interior. A tall arched handle rises above the bowl, while sculpted leaves and curling stems add dimension around its attachments.

The pitcher provides a striking vertical counterpoint. Its rounded, striped body opens visually into a recessed cut-fruit panel, with angled surfaces that emphasize the watermelon’s shape. A projecting seed-painted spout and curved green handle complete the silhouette. Fine stippling across the pink-red surfaces contrasts beautifully with the shaded green rind and reflective glaze.

The smaller pieces carry the same playful spirit: a full watermelon wedge, a second wedge with an intentional glazed “bite,” and a miniature open holder. Together, they turn the grouping into a small ceramic still life, with details that reward a closer look.

A Designer’s Finishing Touch

An expressive accent for an eclectic kitchen, colorful breakfast room or thoughtfully layered dining space, this set offers an entire coordinated display in one purchase. Its varied heights and forms make it particularly effective on open shelving, a kitchen dresser or a sideboard.

Pair it with walnut or teak for a playful accent in a Mid-Century Modern interior; combine it with pink linens, gingham and colorful glassware for a feminine vintage tablescape; or place it among botanical ceramics and patterned dishes in a maximalist collection. The strong palette ties the pieces together, while their differing silhouettes keep the arrangement lively.

Maker & Decorative Character

The pitcher and basket bear Strata Group’s “Ripe Watermelons” marks, including “Handpainted Philippines” and a 1991 design copyright, supporting a 1990s attribution.

The collection’s fruit-shaped vessels and humorous details evoke the longstanding tradition of trompe-l’œil tableware—ceramics that transform familiar foods and botanical forms into imaginative decorative objects. Here, that spirit appears in the carved-melon basket, dimensional pitcher, and charming bitten wedge.
