Exceptional matched set of six antique Belgian oak dining chairs with beautifully carved Chippendale-style backs, pierced central splats, cabriole legs and distinctive ball-and-claw feet.
The chairs have a wonderful European / French-influenced Chippendale or Rococo Revival appearance, with elaborate carved ornament throughout. The pierced back splats feature flowing foliate and shell-like carving, while the shaped crest rails and deeply carved cabriole legs give the chairs an especially elegant silhouette.
Although Belgian in origin, their design incorporates elements associated with French and English Chippendale furniture, making them an excellent choice for a traditional, French Country, European, formal dining room or eclectic interior.
The chairs are made of solid oak and retain their original finish, giving the wood a beautiful warm, aged appearance. The set has substantial presence without being overly large, making it suitable for both a formal dining table and a more decorative dining or breakfast room setting.
The chairs have been reupholstered at some point and currently feature an attractive floral tapestry-style upholstery with burgundy, blue, green, cream and rose tones. The seat bottoms are removable from the chair frames, making them especially convenient for cleaning or future reupholstery.
The carved backs and ball-and-claw feet are particularly impressive and give this set much more character than an ordinary set of dining chairs.

The chairs retain their original finish and have been well preserved. They are solid, sturdy and structurally sound with the normal minor signs of age and use expected of antique furniture. The wood shows appropriate age-related wear and minor surface imperfections consistent with antique use. The original finish has attractive patina and character. The seat upholstery has been replaced/reupholstered at some point in the past. The current floral fabric is attractive and presents well, although it should not be represented as original to the chairs. The extensive carving remains well defined, including the pierced backs, cabriole legs and ball-and-claw feet. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are considered part of the condition description. Overall, a very good and impressive antique set with original finish, solid construction and excellent decorative appeal. less
