This is a striking and substantial vintage octagonal box, crafted from rosewood (huali wood) and beautifully decorated with mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay.
The box features a deep, rich reddish-brown wood grain with a smooth, lustrous finish. The top lid is adorned with a vibrant, intricately cut shell inlay scene depicting two birds perched amongst blooming roses and foliage, rendered in shimmering shades of pale green, white, and iridescent accents. The scalloped edges of the lid are further embellished with evenly spaced, oval-shaped shell inlays.
The box is designed with a deep, lift-off lid that fits securely over the base, providing ample storage for jewelry, small trinkets, or keepsakes. The octagonal shape, combined with the intricate inlay and rich wood tones, makes this a beautiful and functional decorative piece for a vanity, desk, or console table.
