An original abstract expressionist painting on paper by Louis Lazzara, acquired directly from his estate. The work has a bright and joyous feel. The artist has allowed for subtle painted textures and the depth of paint to be visible. Louis Lazzara (1959–2021) was a veteran Hollywood makeup artist whose four-decade career included work on major film productions such as Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and Lincoln. He served as a personal makeup artist to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dwayne Johnson. In addition to his film work, Lazzara was an accomplished visual artist, producing paintings and sculpture alongside his career in motion pictures.
The bold use of saturated color blocks with vivid blues, rich reds, purples, and pops of yellow, and a heavily layered, expressive application strongly shows an influence of the mid-to-late 20th-century work of George McNeil, which matches the height of the New York School gestural abstract movement. The painting has recently been framed.
