Late 19th Century Antique English Two-Tone Stoneware Crosse & Blackwell Preserve Jar by George Skey Tamworth
A beautiful piece of British culinary and industrial history, this antique late-Victorian two-tone salt-glazed stoneware preserve jar was manufactured by George Skey & Co. at the renowned Wilnecote Works in Tamworth, Staffordshire, England.
Dating to the late 19th century, this utilitarian crock was custom-made for the famous premier food brand Crosse & Blackwell to distribute high-end preserves, pickles, or mincemeat. The front lower edge features an exceptionally crisp, dual-stamped hallmark boasting the iconic Crosse & Blackwell "C & B" triangle logo alongside a visible partial oval stamp for the George Skey pottery.
The classic English farmhouse aesthetic is defined by its warm mustard-tan top glaze contrasting beautifully with a cream-colored body. The underside exhibits prominent concentric swirl marks from the original artisan's wire-cutting removal on the pottery wheel. Boasting a heavy, robust rolled rim designed for corking or cloth tying, this jar remains an ideal, authentic accent piece for rustic kitchen open shelving, modern farmhouse vignettes, or dedicated stoneware collections.
