Large Chinese cloud form gongshi, a stratiform, translucent stone in shades of whites, ecrus and light tans with numerous chambers and tunnels, mounted on a traditional, Chinese, finely carved and custom fitted, polished, hongmu, four-legged base. Markedly visible uniform layers are seen from the sides (see pics 3, 7, 9) and the entire surface area of the stone has translucent depths, is reactive to light and has an overall satin, waxy, finish. Circa Republic of China era, no later than mid century.
