The chest incorporates four practical drawers, arranged in the classic configuration of two smaller drawers above two generously proportioned full-width drawers, providing excellent storage while maintaining an attractive and balanced façade. All four drawers retain their original wooden knob handles, preserving the character and authenticity of the piece while complementing the understated nature of the design. The chest stands on charming turned feet, giving the piece a slightly elevated and elegant appearance while providing a pleasing decorative contrast to the otherwise restrained form. Throughout, the mahogany displays particularly attractive natural grain, rich warm colouring and established character. The relatively simple design allows the beauty and figuring of the timber to remain the principal decorative feature. At 94.5 cm wide, the chest provides generous storage while retaining versatile proportions suitable for a bedroom, dressing room, hallway or living space. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin.
