This horizontal scale Italian miniature represents a traditional cultural object known as a "scopetta spazzaguai," a symbolic broom intended to sweep away misfortune. Crafted in 800 continental silver, the piece features an attached decorative branch resembling butcher's broom, a classic European winter plant associated with festive decoration and good fortune.
The design features a clear contrast between the polished silver textures of the bristle bundle and the colorful accent of three red enameled berries. Its low, flat proportions make it suitable as an accent piece for seasonal table settings or a unique addition to a collection of thematic Italian silver charms.
Silversmiths from this period frequently cast regional folk objects and seasonal symbols in precious metals, combining traditional casting techniques with small details of cold enamel to create symbolic tokens for the home.
