The softly scalloped porcelain form is beautifully decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, with a naturalistic floral bouquet at its center. Delicate botanical sprigs alternate with wonderfully whimsical cobalt-blue insects across the softly scalloped rim, creating a playful contrast with the formal floral bouquet at the center.

The underside bears Meissen’s distinctive crossed-swords mark in underglaze blue. Based on the mark, decorative technique, and form, this piece is believed to date to the 19th century, possibly its earlier decades. The precise manufacturing date has not been independently authenticated.

Particularly appealing are the subtle variations in the hand-applied cobalt decoration and the historic character of the porcelain itself, including small original firing and glaze irregularities.

Measuring approximately 9¾ inches across, this distinctive piece is equally at home among a collection of fine European porcelain or displayed individually as an elegant decorative accent.

Condition: Good antique condition with one noticeable chip to the scalloped outer rim, clearly documented in the photographs. Additional characteristics include small glaze pinholes and firing irregularities, a minor tan-colored spot within the interior, and light wear and discoloration to the underside foot ring. These characteristics have been considered in the asking price.

A beautiful example of the timeless appeal of antique blue-and-white European porcelain. Black wooden display stand shown in the photographs is included. See less
