An exceptional, museum-documented original Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock print triptych (complete 3-panel composition) by the celebrated Edo-period master Utagawa Kunisada (signed Toyokuni III, 1786–1864).
Printed between 1851 and 1853, this complete set illustrates a scene from the highly sought-after series Nise Murasaki Inaka Genji (The False Murasaki and a Rural Genji)—a lavish, mid-19th-century parody of the classic Tale of Genji. The scene features Prince Genji under blooming spring plum blossoms, surrounded by court beauties clad in incredibly intricate, high-fashion textiles.
This specific printing features the rare, highly regarded carver mark of Hori Take (Yokogawa Takejirō), showcasing masterful precision in the hair strands and textile details, published by the historic house of Izumiya Ichibei.
