Deep blue-purple iridescent glass pressed with grape clusters and leaves (Imperial's Grape pattern, goblet #473), on a ribbed stem with a round foot. The underside of the foot is signed with Imperial's overlapping IG mark, introduced in 1951 — this goblet is from Imperial's 1960s carnival-glass revival. Measures 5.5 inches tall with a 3.25 inch rim. Very good vintage condition; no chips or cracks observed. A single replacement goblet or a moody accent for a dark table.

A little history: this goblet is Imperial's Grape pattern — the #473 water goblet in Imperial's 1966 carnival-glass revival line, when the Bellaire, Ohio company reissued its classic-era patterns in iridescent Smoke, a color it advertised as 'Peacock Blue.' Carnival glass gets its oil-slick rainbow from metallic salts sprayed onto the glass while it is still hot from the mold — the sheen is fired in, not painted on. Imperial's Grape is constantly confused with Indiana Glass's similar Harvest Grape; the overlapping IG mark on the foot (Imperial's mark from 1951) is the tell that this one is Imperial. See less
