A 2021 mixed media painting, titled "Maria Callas," by the Italian artist Andrea Ventura (born 1968). This piece depicts a portrait of the opera singer Maria Callas wearing a cobalt blue shirt and sitting against a lighter blue background. The work was painted on two pieces of paper, which were collaged together to form the composition with a central gap between the two running across the center. Mounted on white board, this piece is titled, dated, and signed to the lower edge.
Born in Milan, Italy, Ventura studied history at university but built his career and illustration. His illustrations have been featured in "The New Yorker," "Rolling Stone Magazine," "The New York Times," "Der Spiegel," and more. He has won silver and gold medals from The Society of Illustrators for several of his portraits.
