The gently bowed front is centred by a raised floral rosette surrounded by flowing scrollwork, with moulded borders running along the lower edge. Sculptural shaped terminals at either end add further architectural interest and give the piece a particularly attractive silhouette. The cast iron has been refurbished and finished in a traditional dark polished surface, highlighting the texture and definition of the original casting. Designed to conceal the ashpan beneath a traditional fireplace grate, it is both a functional replacement component and an attractive period fireplace accessory. Ideal for the restoration of an antique Victorian or Edwardian fireplace, or for replacing a missing original ashpan cover.
