The fixture centres upon a substantial marbled cloud-effect opaline glass bowl, designed to diffuse the light into a soft, atmospheric glow. The shade is held within its original stepped chrome-plated cage and saddle gallery, complete with substantial period locking bolts. Original chrome-plated suspension chains rise from the bowl to an elegant three-arm dish-form ceiling plate in chrome-plated brass, creating a balanced architectural silhouette characteristic of sophisticated french interwar lighting. A particularly attractive feature is the veined alabaster central column, constructed in graduated stages with upper and lower drip-tray details. The natural variations within the stone provide warmth and contrast beautifully against the cooler chrome fittings and white opaline glass. The lower chrome gallery houses the original brass b22 bayonet-fit bulb holder. The combination of opaline glass, alabaster and chrome gives the fixture considerable decorative presence while retaining the streamlined elegance associated with french art deco design. It would make an impressive centrepiece above a dining table, within an entrance hall, drawing room or sophisticated period interior. The light has been fully rewired in period-appropriate three-core fabric-braided cable, earthed, tested and presented in working order.
