An exceptional French Art Nouveau figural desk lamp and inkstand signed by Louis Cahuzac, dating to circa 1920. The sculptural composition features an elegant female figure modelled with the flowing lines and organic ornament characteristic of Art Nouveau. Executed in bronzed metal, the figure rises dramatically from a substantial desk-set base incorporating twin functional inkwells with their porcelain liners, combining decorative sculpture, illumination and writing accessories within a single object. The lamp is surmounted by a striking green Vaseline uranium glass shade, UV tested and attributed to James Powell & Sons. Its translucent green colouring provides a particularly atmospheric glow when illuminated and creates a vivid contrast against the dark bronzed surface of the sculpture. Weighing approximately 9.9 lb, the piece has substantial presence and is particularly impressive as a desk, library or study centrepiece. The survival of the integrated inkwells, figural sculpture and period glass shade makes this an unusually complete example of decorative early 20th-century lighting. Professionally rewired in period-appropriate three-core fabric-braided cable, earthed, tested and reported to be in perfect working order.
