Executed in oil on panel, the work demonstrates Follini's atmospheric approach to landscape painting, combining confident, expressive brushwork with a sensitivity to light and colour. Venice was among the artist's favoured subjects, alongside Alpine landscapes, coastal views and the Italian countryside. The unusually tall, narrow format gives the composition a particularly appealing character, well suited to the vertical architecture and waterways of Venice. Follini's treatment of the city emphasises atmosphere rather than rigid architectural detail, placing the work within the broader development of late 19th-century Italian landscape painting. Importantly, the painting is signed at the lower right and additionally titled and precisely dated “Venice 29.9.92” at the lower left, firmly establishing both the location and date of execution. The reverse also bears the artist's stamp, providing an additional identifying mark. An attractive and well-documented example of Follini's Venetian work, combining a desirable subject with an exact 1892 date and artist's stamp. About Carlo Follini Carlo Follini (1848–1938) was an Italian painter known for his landscapes, mountain views, Venetian scenes, coastal subjects, townscapes and figurative compositions. Born in Domodossola, Piedmont, Follini studied under the important Italian landscape painter Antonio Fontanesi at the Accademia Albertina in Turin. He subsequently spent several years furthering his artistic studies in Bologna. Landscape became central to his career. Follini travelled widely in search of subjects, developing a particular interest in mountain scenery, Venice, the Italian countryside and the sea. His paintings were shown in important Italian artistic centres including Turin, Florence, Venice and Rome, establishing him within the landscape tradition of late 19th- and early 20th-century Italian painting. Follini died in 1938 at Pegli, near Genoa.
