The cameo is collet set within a warm 15-carat yellow gold mount, creating a refined example of late 19th-century sentimental jewellery. ㅤ The oval shell cameo has been intricately hand carved in relief, with the pale raised figures contrasting beautifully against the naturally warmer background of the shell. The detailed carving gives the composition an impressive sense of depth and delicacy. ㅤ At the centre of the scene is a graceful seated maiden accompanied by a winged angelic figure. The subject reflects the Victorian fascination with imagery derived from classical antiquity, mythology and allegorical themes, all of which became particularly popular in cameo jewellery. ㅤ The cameo is surrounded by a restrained 15-carat yellow gold collet mount, allowing the intricately carved scene to remain the principal decorative feature.
