The hound is depicted standing alert, capturing the breed’s characteristic long ears, powerful build and expressive features. Particularly fine attention has been given to the folds of the skin, musculature and facial expression, giving the sculpture a convincing sense of character and realism. The sculpture is hot cast in bronze using the traditional lost-wax process, a technique capable of reproducing exceptionally fine surface detail. At approximately 84 cm high and 90 cm long, this is a substantial work weighing approximately 32.5 kg. The sculpture is signed “Christian Maas” on the front leg and also bears a foundry stamp, providing further identification of the work. Suitable for both interior and exterior display, this large-scale bronze would make a commanding addition to a country house, entrance hall, garden, terrace or landscaped estate, as well as an appealing acquisition for collectors of animal and sporting sculpture.
