Of circular form, the salver is surrounded by an elaborate gadrooned anthemion-style border incorporating beautifully modelled scallop shells, radiating petals and scrolling ornament. The anthemion, a decorative motif derived from classical Greek and Roman art, lends the piece a particularly refined neoclassical character. The centre is extensively hand engraved with intricate stylised geometric patterns and scrolling foliate motifs, creating an impressive decorative surface. A vacant cartouche remains free from personalised engraving. Crafted from heavy-gauge sterling silver and raised upon a flat base, the salver has an impressive net silver weight of approximately 900.4 grams, giving it a substantial quality and presence. Presented in very good antique condition with a beautiful bright patina and minor age-related surface marks. Three of the scallop-shell motifs display slight wear to their tips, as illustrated in the accompanying photographs. There are no noted bruises, significant damage or repairs, and the piece remains free from later engraved presentation inscriptions or monograms. Clean and ready for use or display, this is an impressive example of Edwardian English silver, equally suited as a serving salver or decorative table centrepiece. See less
