The brooch is cleverly fashioned as a horse-riding crop, its slender 15ct rose gold body creating a refined linear composition. At the centre is a traditional “lucky horseshoe” motif executed in contrasting platinum, an enduring symbol of good fortune and particularly appropriate to the equestrian design. Further platinum detailing appears at both ends of the riding crop, with the handle and whip sections rendered in the contrasting precious metal. The combination of warm rose gold and cool platinum creates an attractive two-tone effect characteristic of high-quality Edwardian jewellery. The carefully considered proportions and sporting subject reflect the popularity of equestrian and novelty jewellery among fashionable society during the early 20th century. Designed to be worn either as a bar brooch or tie pin, the piece combines decorative elegance with a distinctive sporting character. A charming and highly collectible example of Edwardian equestrian jewellery, combining 15ct rose gold, platinum and traditional lucky symbolism within an unusually refined design.
