An original american art deco banker’s desk lamp by s. Robert schwartz & bro., new york, dating to circa 1925. The lamp is constructed from bronzed brass and cast metal with a richly aged bronze finish and strong architectural proportions. Its design combines the functional character of traditional banker’s lighting with the increasingly streamlined geometric aesthetic of the emerging art deco period. A distinctive elongated trough-form shade directs illumination downward across a desk or writing surface, while the adjustable construction allows the angle of the light to be repositioned as required. The sculptural upright and substantial circular base give the lamp an attractive architectural presence while providing stability. The naturally developed bronze patina contributes considerably to its period character, making the piece particularly suitable for a library, study, executive desk or sophisticated contemporary interior. The lamp has been professionally rewired and tested and is reported to be in full working order.
