A striking original french art deco table lamp dating to circa 1940, combining polished white porcelain, chrome-plated metal and hand-moulded opaline cased glass in a distinctly architectural modernist composition. The substantial stepped circular base is formed in polished white porcelain, rising through a series of alternating chrome and porcelain elements. A rounded white porcelain central section interrupts the highly reflective chrome column, creating the strong geometric contrast characteristic of late art deco and streamline moderne design. Above, a substantial chrome gallery supports the original staged drum-form shade, hand-moulded from opaline cased glass with warm cream and amber marbling. When illuminated, the glass produces a soft golden glow that contrasts beautifully with the cooler white porcelain and reflective chrome surfaces below. Weighing approximately 6.9 lb (3.1 kg), the lamp has a reassuringly substantial construction despite its restrained proportions. Its combination of geometric symmetry, luxurious materials and minimalist architectural detailing makes it particularly suitable for both period art deco interiors and contemporary settings. The lamp has been professionally rewired and is reported to be tested and in full working order.
