The substantial architectural base rises through a series of stepped and fluted elements into an elongated central column. Decorative scrolling supports and stylised foliate details give the metalwork a distinctly gothic revival and early arts & crafts character, with design elements reminiscent of the later work associated with w.a.s. Benson. The lamp is crowned by a large tinted glass shade modelled as a flickering torch flame. Its sculptural folds become particularly dramatic when illuminated, producing a warm amber glow and transforming the lamp into a highly atmospheric decorative feature. The naturally aged bronze and brass surfaces retain an attractive period patina, while the lamp incorporates a b22 bayonet bulb fitting and bakelite components.
