The bureau opens to reveal a nicely fitted writing interior, thoughtfully arranged with a series of compartments and storage spaces for correspondence, stationery and smaller personal items. The writing surface is positioned at a comfortable desk height of approximately 71 cm, making the piece both decorative and practical. Below the writing section are two useful drawers, both retaining their original handles and fittings. These provide additional concealed storage while contributing to the authentic character of the piece. The bureau is raised on particularly attractive barley-twist legs, a defining feature of the Jacobean Revival style, united by supportive stretchers that provide both structural stability and considerable decorative interest.
