Substantially cast … Read more A striking French figural wall light combining classical Empire-inspired decoration with the sculptural character of early 20th-century lighting. Substantially cast in bronze and weighing approximately 5.2 lb, the fixture centres on an intricately modelled Siren or sea nymph head, projecting from a large decorative shield-form wall plate. The sculptural bronze work displays an attractive aged patina that enhances its period character. An articulated bronze hanging link supports the substantial Arts & Crafts-style gallery, from which rises a dramatic hand-moulded French glass shade formed as a flickering torch flame. The softly tinted glass creates a warm atmospheric glow when illuminated and provides a particularly effective contrast against the dark patinated bronze. The fixture has been professionally serviced and rewired with three-core fabric-braided cable, earthed, tested and is in working order. An unusual and highly decorative piece of French lighting, ideal as a statement wall sconce in an entrance hall, drawing room, library or period-inspired interior.
