The chest incorporates five generously proportioned drawers, providing substantial and practical storage for clothing, linens or other household items while maintaining a balanced and traditional façade. Each drawer is fitted with decorative brass handles, creating an attractive contrast against the lighter tones of the satinwood and adding a refined period detail to the otherwise understated design. Particularly appealing is the satinwood itself, displaying pronounced natural grain, attractive figuring and warm golden tones throughout. The timber has developed an appealing aged character that gives the chest a relaxed, rustic quality while retaining the distinctive decorative qualities associated with satinwood. The chest is supported upon a substantial plinth base, providing excellent strength and stability while giving the piece a reassuringly solid architectural presence. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use that complement its rustic character. At just over one metre wide, this is a highly practical piece offering considerable storage without the excessive proportions of a larger chest. Its warm timber and restrained design allow it to work particularly well within traditional, country-house and eclectic contemporary interiors.
