Lister & co., beautifully constructed and combining practical functionality with unusual decorative character. The upper section takes the form of a small coopered oak barrel, attractively bound with brass bands that provide a striking contrast against the warm tones of the timber. Designed to accommodate a plant pot or jardinière, the recessed upper section measures approximately 31 cm by 31 cm. The stand is raised upon elegantly shaped cabriole legs, lending a refined furniture-like quality to the traditional barrel construction. A useful lower shelf provides additional display space while also contributing to the stability and well-balanced proportions of the piece. The oak displays particularly attractive natural grain throughout, enhanced by a rich, warm colour and established patina. The combination of beautifully aged oak and brass gives the stand considerable depth and visual appeal. Made by r.a. Lister & co., the piece is an appealing example of the firm's distinctive coopered oak wares and demonstrates an attractive combination of traditional craftsmanship and practical domestic design.
