Of rectangular form, the paperweight features elegantly chamfered borders and richly figured rosewood veneers. The centre is decorated with a stylised motif surrounded by finely executed cross-banding composed of various fruitwoods arranged in intricate marquetry and symmetrical geometric patterns. The contrasting timbers and detailed mosaic-like decoration create a particularly attractive surface, showcasing the precision and craftsmanship for which Tunbridge Ware is renowned. Presented in good antique condition with age-related shrinkage to the carcass and an historic repair to the veneer. These areas remain stable and secure, as illustrated in the accompanying photographs. The piece retains a beautiful rich patina developed naturally with age and is clean and ready for use or display.
