An exceptionally substantial English Edwardian pendant light dating to circa 1910, combining a monumental pressed copper gallery with a beautifully moulded opaline glass shade. The imposing upper structure takes the form of a stylised cargo or ecclesiastical-style copper crown, incorporating a separate ventilated chamber, twin entry details and a traditional cross-bar hanging arrangement. Its wonderfully warm, naturally aged copper surface gives the fixture considerable architectural presence. Suspended beneath is a large hand-moulded frosted opaline glass shade decorated with deeply modelled stylised foliate motifs. When illuminated, the opaline glass produces a soft, warm glow while revealing the relief decoration across its surface. The fixture retains its substantial bronze oval-link suspension chain and copper and brass ceiling rose with traditional hanging hook. The internal assembly incorporates a heavy-duty ceramic E27 Edison screw bulb holder. Professionally restored and rewired with period-appropriate three-core fabric-braided cable, earthed and tested. with an overall drop approaching one metre, this is a particularly impressive statement light suited to a grand entrance hall, stairwell, dining room, kitchen island, boutique hotel or other large architectural interior.
