The substantial cast iron body displays finely defined decorative casting throughout, creating an elegant frame around the central fire opening. Particularly desirable is the survival of the original ceramic tiles, which introduce colour, pattern and visual interest while preserving the historic integrity of the fireplace. The contrast between the decorative tiles and dark cast iron gives the piece a particularly striking appearance, highlighting both the ceramic ornamentation and the crisp details of the original ironwork. The fireplace has undergone a comprehensive professional refurbishment. The cast iron was carefully stripped and thoroughly cleaned before receiving a protective coating designed to preserve the surface. Traditional grate polish was subsequently applied and carefully buffed, producing a rich gunmetal appearance while bringing out the depth and definition of the original cast decoration. The retention of the original tiles is an important feature, adding authenticity and making the insert especially appealing for the sympathetic restoration of a period property. A handsome and highly decorative piece of antique architectural salvage, professionally restored and ready to become an impressive focal point within a drawing room, dining room, bedroom or other period interior.
