Standing approximately 56 cm high, the candlestick features an elongated fluted column punctuated by a series of moulded and lobed sections, rising to a broad circular candle platform fitted with an iron pricket spike. The substantial lower section terminates in a distinctive three-legged base, giving the piece an elegant yet sturdy silhouette. The surface is particularly appealing, retaining traces of its historic silver, green and yellow painted decoration. Years of natural wear have produced a richly distressed patina, with rubbing, colour variation and exposed areas of timber creating the character expected from an authentic antique decorative object. with its ecclesiastical-inspired form and strong sculptural presence, the candlestick makes an impressive decorative accent for a country house, traditional interior, console table or collection of architectural and religious antiques. The piece remains in good antique condition overall, with age-related wear, surface marks, losses and imperfections to the painted finish consistent with its age and use.
