Reclaimed from a period property in Bolton, Greater Manchester, this substantial fireplace incorporates the surround, mantel, fire opening and grate within a single cohesive composition. Its strong proportions and crisp cast detailing create an impressive architectural presence while retaining the understated elegance characteristic of early 20th-century British design. The fireplace is fully complete and ready for installation, making it particularly suitable for the sympathetic restoration of an Edwardian or Arts and Crafts interior. The cast iron has undergone a comprehensive professional refurbishment. Historic layers of paint were painstakingly removed by hand rather than through shot blasting, helping to protect the original surface and preserve the definition of the cast decoration. Following stripping, the entire fireplace was carefully wire brushed to both the front and reverse. Traditional grate polish was then applied and buffed by brush, producing a rich gunmetal appearance that beautifully highlights the crispness and depth of the original casting. The reverse has also been professionally prepared and spray painted, ensuring that the fireplace has been fully refurbished from front to back. A substantial and highly decorative example of Edwardian architectural ironwork, combining Arts and Crafts influence, original period character, Manchester-area provenance and a professionally restored finish.
