The figures depict a male and female kneeling water carrier, conceived as complementary companions and reflecting the Neoclassical influences that played an important role in British decorative arts during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The male figure is portrayed kneeling while supporting a substantial vessel across his lap, with carefully modelled features, naturalistic anatomy and finely rendered folds to his clothing. His female companion adopts a corresponding kneeling pose, holding a water vessel and wearing gracefully draped garments enriched with delicate hand-painted floral decoration. Both figures are finished in a warm ivory-toned porcelain palette, accented with subtle gilding and restrained colour that emphasises the quality of the modelling.
