The fall-front opens to create a practical writing surface at a comfortable desk height of 73.5 cm. Behind, the interior is thoughtfully fitted with a series of compartments designed for organising correspondence, stationery, documents and writing accessories. Below the writing section are two useful drawers, providing additional concealed storage. Both retain their original handles, preserving the authentic period character of the piece. The bureau also retains its key, an attractive and increasingly desirable feature in antique furniture of this type. The piece is raised upon finely turned legs united by a substantial supporting stretcher, providing excellent strength and stability while creating a traditional and beautifully balanced silhouette.
