The composition captures a cowboy struggling to remain mounted upon a violently rearing and twisting horse, creating an exceptional sense of movement, tension and energy. The dynamic pose embodies the frontier themes of horsemanship, determination and the untamed character of the American West for which Remington’s imagery became renowned. Finely cast in brass, the sculpture displays extensive modelling throughout, from the musculature and movement of the horse to the rider’s clothing, equipment and animated posture. The detailed base and surrounding elements further contribute to the narrative quality of the composition. The brass has developed attractive tonal variation and aged character, accentuating the depth of the modelling and giving the sculpture considerable visual presence. Standing approximately 49 cm high, this is a substantial decorative sculpture ideally suited to display upon a pedestal, console, library table or substantial desk. Presented in good vintage condition, with appropriate signs of age and use. An impressive decorative interpretation of an iconic American Western subject, combining dramatic movement, substantial scale and highly detailed casting.
