The necklace features an … Read more A rare and highly distinctive Art Deco cherry amber Bakelite bead necklace, dating to circa 1920s. The necklace features an unusual and sophisticated arrangement centred around three large stylised components, complemented by a combination of faceted and circular Bakelite beads. The rich translucent cherry-amber colouring gives the necklace considerable warmth and depth, while the geometric forms strongly reflect the bold decorative vocabulary of the Art Deco period. The combination of larger sculptural elements with carefully graduated faceted and rounded beads creates an especially striking composition, making this a particularly unusual example of early Bakelite jewellery. The material has been tested with Simichrome polish, as illustrated in the accompanying photographs, supporting its identification as Bakelite. The necklace retains its original-style threaded screw clasp, which remains in good working order and closes securely. with a gross weight of approximately 34 grams, the necklace remains comfortable to wear while having a substantial visual presence. Presented in very good original condition with no noted chips, damage or restoration. Clean and ready to wear or display.
