The rectangular top opens from a compact depth of 44 cm to approximately 87 cm, revealing a beautifully finished tea table surface and transforming the piece into a considerably larger and highly practical occasional table. Particularly fine carved decoration appears throughout the table, with detailed work to the frieze creating an attractive architectural border beneath the beautifully figured top. The quality and intricacy of the carving demonstrate the accomplished craftsmanship evident throughout the piece. The table is supported by an impressive carved central pillar terminating in four graceful cabriole legs. Finely carved knees and feet provide further decorative interest and give the base an elegant, sculptural quality from every angle. Throughout, the figured walnut displays particularly striking natural grain, rich warm colouring and considerable visual depth. The dramatic figuring of the timber complements the intricate carving beautifully and gives the table considerable decorative presence. When closed, the relatively shallow 44 cm depth allows the table to sit comfortably against a wall or within a smaller space. When required, the top opens to provide a substantially larger surface, making the piece both highly decorative and exceptionally versatile.
