The fixture is built around a heavy structural gothic-style chassis formed by four decorative vertical pillars, giving the pendant the appearance of a miniature architectural lantern. At its centre sits a large tinted prismatic ribbed glass shade, whose deeply moulded surface refracts and diffuses the light to particularly atmospheric effect. A turned bronze central column with upper and lower plates provides the structural core of the fixture, while the original ventilated bronze gallery retains its locking bolts and brass b22 bayonet bulb holder. The pendant is suspended from a substantial bronzed cast-metal interlink chain terminating in its original s-shaped fitting. Completing the design is a heavy brass and bronze ceiling plate with an open-hook suspension fitting. The juxtaposition of industrial prismatic glass and gothic-inspired metalwork gives the piece an unusual architectural presence, making it particularly well suited to period, industrial and eclectic interiors. The fixture has been professionally rewired in period-appropriate three-core silk-braided cable, earthed and tested, and is reported to be in full working order.
