Created under the authority of the Dean and Chapter of Lincoln, the plaque was issued in a strictly limited edition of 500 examples, with this particular piece numbered 27. The composition features a raised profile portrait of Sir Christopher Wren in period dress, his distinctive long curled hair and formal attire rendered in crisp relief against an oval black basalt ground. The plaque is presented against a rich ochre-gold velvet backing within a traditional gilt frame, creating an elegant presentation reminiscent of historic portrait medallions. Wren remains one of the most important figures in British architectural history. His extraordinary career encompassed architecture, mathematics, astronomy and science, and he was a founding member of the Royal Society, later serving as its President from 1680 to 1682. His architectural legacy includes some of Britain's most celebrated buildings and, most famously, St Paul's Cathedral in London. The Wren Library at Lincoln Cathedral was completed in the 17th century and represents an important surviving element of Wren's architectural legacy, making this limited commemorative plaque particularly appealing to collectors of British architectural history, ecclesiastical memorabilia and Wren-related material. with its limited production, low edition number and handsome presentation, this is a distinctive decorative and collectable piece commemorating one of Britain's greatest architects.
