Originally conceived in the tradition of architectural newel post lighting, the lamp has a commanding vertical form with a richly modelled base and decorative column. The silver-plated finish gives the piece an elegant presence, while natural ageing and patination to the metalwork provide the character expected of an original period fitting. The lamp is crowned by a graceful flared tulip-form glass shade, introducing softer organic lines that contrast beautifully with the architectural metal base. When illuminated, the shade provides a warm diffused light while emphasising the sculptural quality of the lamp. Hawksworth, Eyre & Co. were noted British manufacturers of silver and silver-plated wares, and the association adds particular interest to this substantial decorative lighting piece. with its generous proportions and architectural origins, the lamp would work particularly well on a console or pedestal, within an entrance hall, library or drawing room, or incorporated into a sophisticated period interior. Presented in beautiful antique condition with natural ageing and wear consistent with its age. Material Silver-plated metal, brass and glass Measurements displayed in photos.
