An exceptional and highly sculptural Gothic revival table lamp dating to the 1875, distinguished by its monumental bronze urn-form body and original hand-moulded Vianne glass flame shade. Standing an impressive 73 cm high and weighing approximately 22.5 lb (10.2 kg), the lamp has a substantial architectural presence. The three-handled reeded urn body is richly ornamented, with finely cast female masks positioned beneath each handle. Serpentine forms emerge from the figures and wrap around the body, creating an elaborate sculptural composition. The urn is further embellished with a decorative solid bronze upper section and an ornate central column supporting the original period ventilated bronze gallery and under-tray. Above sits a dramatic French Vianne moulded glass shade in the form of a flaming torch, producing a particularly atmospheric glow when illuminated. The lamp retains numerous period details, including its vintage Edison screw bulb holder, Bakelite inline switch and early three-round-pin plug. It has been professionally rewired with period-style fabric-braided cable, earthed and tested, while retaining the character and patina of the original fittings. A rare statement piece combining figural sculpture, classical urn forms and dramatic Art Deco lighting design.
