Designed as an integrated all-in-one fireplace, the mantel, surround, fire opening and grate form a cohesive architectural composition, creating a strong and attractive focal point for a period interior. The fireplace has undergone a comprehensive professional refurbishment. Historic layers of paint were painstakingly removed by hand rather than through shot blasting, helping to preserve the integrity of the cast iron surface and the definition of its original decorative details. Following stripping, the entire fireplace was carefully wire brushed to both the front and reverse. Traditional grate polish was then applied and buffed by brush, producing a rich dark gunmetal appearance while highlighting the depth and crispness of the cast decoration. The reverse has also been professionally prepared and painted, ensuring that the fireplace has been fully refurbished from front to back. Dating to approximately 1915, this attractive combination fireplace represents the enduring quality of British cast iron fireplace manufacture during the transition from the Edwardian period into the early 20th century. A substantial and highly decorative piece of period architectural ironwork, professionally restored and ready to form an impressive focal point within a traditional or sympathetically designed contemporary interior.
