The substantial cast iron construction features finely defined decorative casting surrounding the central fire opening. The original tiles are a particularly desirable feature, introducing colour and pattern while preserving the historic integrity of the fireplace. The contrast between the richly decorated ceramic tiles and the dark metallic surface of the cast iron creates a striking visual effect, allowing both the ornamental ironwork and ceramic decoration to stand out. The fireplace has undergone a comprehensive professional refurbishment. The cast iron was carefully stripped and thoroughly cleaned before receiving a protective coating to preserve the surface and enhance its longevity. Traditional grate polish was subsequently applied and carefully buffed, revealing the crisp definition of the original castings and producing an attractive deep gunmetal appearance with a naturally aged character. Importantly, the fireplace retains its original tiles rather than later replacements, adding considerably to its authenticity and decorative appeal. A handsome piece of antique architectural salvage, ideal for the sympathetic restoration of a period property or as a distinctive focal point within a traditional or eclectic interior.
