A substantial george vi sterling silver table centre, fruit or cake stand / compotier, hallmarked sheffield 1940 and made by the renowned silversmiths walker & hall. The gallery is beautifully hand pierced with symmetrical grapevine fretwork, creating an intricate openwork design of considerable decorative quality. Finely hand-engraved highlights accentuate the pierced ornament and bring additional definition to the scrolling vine decoration. A substantial gadrooned border surrounds the piece, once again incorporating grapevine motifs modelled in high relief, creating a harmonious continuation of the botanical theme. The stand is raised upon an elegant oval stepped base, providing a balanced and refined profile while allowing the elaborate pierced gallery to remain the principal decorative feature.
crafted in heavy-gauge sterling silver, the piece has an impressive net silver weight of approximately 637.5 grams, reflecting its substantial construction and quality. Fully hallmarked for sheffield 1940, the stand bears the maker’s mark for walker & hall of electro works, howard street, sheffield. Presented in excellent condition with a beautiful bright patina.
