Modelled in relief, the plaque presents a bustling historical view of Regent Street, London, with its distinctive sweeping terraces forming the architectural backdrop. Horse-drawn carriages travel along the roadway while numerous figures in Victorian dress animate the pavements, creating an engaging impression of everyday London life in 1852. The architectural façades are carefully rendered in raised relief and enhanced with hand-painted colour, giving the scene considerable depth and allowing details such as windows, shopfronts, carriages and figures to emerge from the composition. The plaque provides an appealing decorative interpretation of historic London and is particularly interesting given the subsequent transformation of Regent Street, while retaining the instantly recognisable character of the famous curved streetscape. The reverse bears the Beswick / Royal Doulton Group mark, identifying its manufacture. Presented in excellent condition with no damage noted, the plaque is ready for wall display. An attractive piece of British ceramic art and London memorabilia, particularly suited to collectors of Beswick, Royal Doulton, architectural subjects and historic London views.
