The lamp stands upon a substantial circular stepped brass plinth with a weighted stabilising plate, rising to a slender tubular central column incorporating its original spring-loaded friction-controlled rise-and-fall mechanism. Two elegantly curved, independently adjustable arms extend from the central column, allowing the light to be positioned as required and giving the lamp its distinctive balanced silhouette. Each arm is fitted with a period open bronze gallery and an individually operated B22 bayonet bulb holder with paddle switch, allowing the two lights to be controlled separately. The lamp is completed by a pair of beautiful French hand-moulded pâte de verre glass shades attributed to Vianne, dating to the early 20th century. Their softly ruffled forms and subtle blue coloration provide an attractive contrast against the warm patinated brass. The combination of late 19th-century engineering, articulated lighting and decorative French glass makes this an especially characterful piece for a library, study, desk or sophisticated period interior. Professionally rewired in period-appropriate fabric-braided three-core cable, earthed and tested, and presented in working order. The brass retains an attractive natural aged patina consistent with its considerable age. Material Solid brass, bronze, pâte de verre glass and Bakelite Dimensions displayed in photos.
