At the centre of the work is a wonderfully characterful British Bulldog portrait, executed in oil on a rigid board rather than conventional canvas. The textured brushwork and warm, earthy palette capture the distinctive expression and powerful features of the breed, creating a portrait with considerable personality and presence. What transforms the work into something particularly unusual is its elaborate mixed-media surround. The painting is incorporated into a substantial solid timber construction embellished with aged metalwork, brass fittings and various mechanical components.
