An exceptionally decorative french table lamp based around “la fortune” by louis moreau, combining sculptural bronze detailing with four individual opaline glass shades. The lamp stands on a substantial stepped black wooden circular base bearing the “la fortune” by “louis moreau” designation. Above, an elaborately detailed multi-stage bronze column is enriched with bas-relief ornamentation and supports an impressive arrangement of three sweeping swan-neck arms. Each arm terminates in a bronzed gallery retaining its original brass b22 bayonet bulb holder and supports a french hand-moulded opaline glass shade. The three outer shades feature unusual obliquely cut profiles decorated with delicate floral motifs. At the centre, a substantial three-arm brass cage gallery supports a large vianne opaline glass dome shade, creating a dramatic contrast with the three surrounding lights. The combination of sculptural bronze, black wood and softly diffused opaline glass gives the lamp a particularly imposing presence. Period details include an early ivory bakelite “crater” inline switch and an early 20th-century gec three-round-pin brown bakelite plug. The lamp has been professionally serviced, restored and rewired with period-appropriate three-core fabric-braided cable, earthed and tested.
